WES BORLAND CONFIRMS FRED DURST IS TRACKING VOCALS FOR NEW LIMP BIZKIT ALBUM AND PLAYS NEWLY RECORDED RIFFS LIVE ON TWITCH.TV/DWPRESENTS SPACE ZEBRA: RIFF WARS!

WES BORLAND CONFIRMS FRED DURST IS TRACKING VOCALS FOR NEW LIMP BIZKIT ALBUM AND PLAYS NEWLY RECORDED RIFFS LIVE ON TWITCH.TV/DWPRESENTS SPACE ZEBRA: RIFF WARS!

On Tuesday June 22, 2021, Twitch was live with Danny Wimmer Presents Space Zebra Show: RIFF WARS with Wes Borland, Bobby Schubenski, and Producer Jake Miller only on Twitch.tv/DWPresents.

[[Shoutouts to the moderators during the chat who keep the chat at peace if it ever gets too rowdy, GothamJenny and dustyg36! :-)]]

After a two day break of going to Disneyland with his family and lady in his Life, Alie, who was also in the chat, Wes returns to the show showing off his blue shorty shorts while holding some sort of package, which later in the show he unboxes and reveals it’s a Rainger FX Drone Rainger guitar pedal.

Bobby says he wants to introduce a new segment on Tuesday’s, it’s positivity time because everyone battles shit on a day to day basis. He asks Wes, what he does when he gets static from people, or the radio…He says you can record the static and turn it into a song. If you get bad static from people, you can try and record that too, but not if it’s typing…All you can do with that is post it on Instagram and try to make a sassy comment back. He sarcastically imitates, “look at this person, they did this to me and I’m going to sass ’em back!”

The first thing Bobby wants to resonate with the chat is “DON’T LET THE HARD DAYS WIN”
Wes wants to add, don’t let the hard nights win. He described an experience where he was laying in bed with his awesome lady in his Life, Alie, and he couldn’t shut his brain off thinking about everything going on with Space Zebra, his solo work, and the upcoming Limp Bizkit tour that was announced.

Next one is “TURN YOUR PAIN INTO POWER” …Wes says he has to do that with this freakin’ show when 15 year olds are featured and solo when this show is called RIFF WARS! Wes was referencing how he lost RIFF WARS to MelalLord9000, Miles Edwards the week prior, who absolutely shredded on the guitar! Check out Rainbow Llamacorn’s amazing recap about it here!!

When we caught up with Miles about how it felt to go up against Wes, he told us, “Man, it was an absolute honor to meet THE WES BORLAND, I like him for all his other stuff not just Limp Bizkit, which of course Limp Bizkit is great, anyways it was unbelievable just to meet him, he was so damn cool! I can’t believe I got the chance to go against him. He’s one of my biggest inspirations on guitar so it was insane getting to be on his show. His riffage is just undeniably great, I’m a truly grateful for that experience. And to win against him was insane, I personally think he went easy on me because if he played Break Stuff I would’ve gotten destroyed! But yeah, at the end of the night I couldn’t believe that all happened, it was sweet as hell.”

He told us about his main influences and said, “Dime for sure, Pantera is god damn beautiful, there’s no words to describe Dime’s power, nothing short of a god, RIP brother.”

He also listed Rocky George, Buckethead, Dean Pleasants, Zakk Wylde, Dave Mustaine, and of course, Wes Borland as his other main influences!

He also informed us that his band Vultures will be performing this Saturday at a car show that will be held at Mom’s Music at 1900 Mellwood Ave, Louisville, KY at 10:00AM!

Miles is working on writing material for his other band, SkyFuneral, which he hopes to have released by the Fall. He did inform us that SkyFuneral disbanded after he appeared on the show and he’s managing it on his own. He mentioned that he is releasing his own line of merch under the SkyFuneral name as well!

You can follow Miles at Instagram.com/metallord9000

And the last paper Bobby holds up….TO RIFF OR NOT TO RIFF….
Of course everybody agrees….TO RIFF!!!!!

Gus
from Russia is on standby to riff against Wes later in the show.

Next Bobby wants to talk about Limp Bizkit and the tour that was announced earlier in the day!

Wes comments, “Fred’s in the studio every day completing more vocals on more songs. We can’t wait!

In the middle of this “restlessmike” from the chat, who was a guest on Riff Wars last week aka “Daddy Mike” gifted 25 subscriptions to some of the viewers watching!

Producer Jake goes to LimpBizkit.com/live.html to read off the tour dates, which are provided by the BandsInTown app and also where you can buy the tickets! Wes encourages Jake to read them off like an auctioneer!

“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN….COMING UP TO YOU THURSDAY, JULY 15TH – WE HAVE THE FESTIVAL OF [THE] LAKES…THAT IS IN…HAMMOND! …IN INDIANA!
FOLLOWING THAT…ON FRIDAY JULY 16TH…WE HAVE ROCKFEST AT THE CADOTT!! …IT’S 2021….IN CADOTT….WISCONSIN! …ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 8TH…WE HAVE THE PODIUM IN TILBURG, NETHERLANDS! …ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 14TH, WE HAVE THE FORUM KARLIN IN KARLIN, CZECHIA—“

Wes interrupts asking about Lollapalooza [July 29th and 31st]…Jake says it’s not on there… Wes says this is wrong…This is all wrong… Bobby says to type in “Limp Bizkit Spiritbox Tour” in the search engine. And Jake just so happens to click on a Metal Sucks link and starts reading the dates off again.

Producer Jake also reminds everybody that he will be attending his first Limp Bizkit concert at Aftershock on that Thursday!! He will be crowd surfing in a little inflatable sailboat with a 17th century British Naval Captain uniform on and a telescope!!!

Wes wishes that Jake would wear an itty-bitty teeny-weeny yellow polka dot bikini. Jake says if Wes wants him to, he will. Wes then says…What if you wear your naval gear and then strip down to the bikini on the way back.

[[…We can’t wait to watch this happen!!! Thanks to this amazing social platform called Twitch, where you can interact with your favorite artists and watch them practice and Danny Wimmer Presents, everyone at Damnation Vault won tickets to a DWP festival of our choice this year during The Lab with Caity Babs and Jeris Johnson, which is on Friday evenings 3:30PM [1530] PST/5:30PM [1730] EST!! We are so excited for four nights of Rock ‘n Roll and Metal, kicking it off with Limp Bizkit headlining the Thursday night! Thank you!!!!]]

Bobby now wants to talk about the show the night before…The Battle For The Big Stage, which had 279,000+ viewers!!!

Bands get to compete and play live for the chance to win a spot playing the mainstage at Welcome To Rockville in Daytona Beach, FL!

SUNSINGER and CONCEPTS, who advanced to the next round were not able to perform live on the show that day so SIGIL took on IMPERIAL TIDE instead.
ACTUS REUS won against DIVIDED TRUTH
IMPERIAL TIDE won against SIGIL
You can check out all four bands above as well as videos for SUNSINGER and CONCEPTS below.

Wes asks Jake to throw him scissors so he can unbox a pedal and maybe use it for his performance! It’s a Rainger FX Drone Rainger. He decides to throw it in the mix and see what happens! He got it off of Reverb.com, a website he says has no endorsement, just personal preference!

As he was looking at the pedal, he said he likes the fact he could see the circuit board inside. He hands it to Bobby who said, “maybe we give it away!! I’m in a giving mood.” Wes then grabs the pedal back after he says, “no, we’re going to add it in my setup here.”…As Bobby’s saying he doesn’t have approval but wants to give away the DWP sign, Wes starts talking over him…”Dry Guitar. Interfere. Pitch…” And starts clicking some of the buttons and twisting the knobs. He says it’s good to always start your pedals on twelve o’clock because you don’t know what’s going to happen.
Bobby asked Wes if he has a favorite pedal. Wes answered, “MAESTRO ECHOPLEX EP-3”.

Then he asks how many pedals Wes has on stage. Wes says he has two pedal boards and a clean amp and distorted amp, and a clean pedal board side and a distorted pedal board side.

Wes then goes to his setup. He says the Rainger FX is replacing the Holy Stain pedal, one of his most favorites. He tells a story about how he’s only met Warren Ellis twice. He is the violin/piano player, multi-instrumentalist for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, who is Wes’ favorite live band of all time. When Wes met Warren the second time, Warren told him, “Bro, you’ve got to get a Holy Stain, mate!” in an Australian accent.

Wes turns the pedal on and says, “it’s droning!” as a low pitch, ominous sound starts radiating out of the amp….He picks up a cello bow and starts making very atmospheric sounds…Adding in soft beats along the way.

Everyone in the chat were completely mesmerized.

angerfluctuate pointed out the Rainger FX sounds like a Doom Metal pedal

DIVIDEDTRUTHOFFICIAL said ‘That guitar is dope…’ … ‘Wes should do a meditation channel’

Harbinger_X14 points the guitar he’s using is a PRS…And also points out he used this guitar in Nookie and ETD [Eat The Day]. It’s a 4 string.

kpoturtle says, “my new meditation music.” … “i’m going to sleep [sleep emoji] this is soothing af”

Wes played for 15 minutes.  Several people in the chat were commenting about how meditative the music sounds. Bobby commented that it was the best set Wes had ever done and said people want to know if you could record them and sell them. Wes said he guessed since they were recorded during the show…

Now it’s time for RIFF WARS!

Gus joined the show live from Moscow, Russia where it was 2:17AM to battle against Wes, who was checking his phone and said very nonchalantly, “”I wrote some riffs earlier, I recorded them…But I’m just going to wing it…”  He picks up his guitar and starts playing a riff for a few seconds…Then says, “sorry Jake, go ahead!”

Gus is sporting a black Motorhead t-shirt. He says it’s currently 35 degrees Celsius [95 degrees Fahrenheit] in Moscow, very hot! He thanks the guys for this opportunity and has a short story about Limp Bizkit he wants to share. …As everyone is paying attention to Gus, Wes grabs his phone, holds it up to his ear and plays a few seconds of what sounds like they could be new Limp Bizkit riffs…Everyone is all about leaking things on the show after all!! Can only wonder!! 😉

Gus said Limp Bizkit changed his ways to play drums, as he is also a drummer. He says he knows every single note of John Otto’s playing. In 2011, a friend of his went to a Limp Bizkit concert in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and called him on the phone and he was able to hear the entire concert. He also mentioned he saw Limp Bizkit in 2014 in Lausanne, Switzerland. He mentioned he talked to Gabe…Gabe Karon.
Wes adds, Gabe is a little hot pants dude that runs around with them, that’s been around for years and years and years.

Gus said Gabe told him to make a poster for the concert and maybe John Otto will see it…Try it!
The Channel was the first song that was played that night and people went bananas and he lost the poster and couldn’t play a song. Everybody laughs and Bobby says but he’s here now!

Gus is the first to start riffing!

Producer Jake
lays some new rules down “this is RIFF WARS…NO SOLOS…RIFFS ONLY!” and reminds us all that the chat votes on the winner!

Gus starts out with a heavy, tuned down Dimebag-sounding riff…
Wes answered back with a faster paced riff that sounded exactly like the one that he played on the phone, he exclaimed while setting his guitar down, “that’s my answer!”

Bobby says “ok the phone is ringing…Wes, are you going to answer?”

Wes stands up and plays what sounds like a continuation of the riff from before…The riff causes Jake to spill his drink.

“Wow, that’s insane!” says Gus with a big smile on his face.

Gus answers back with a speedier riff, again with a hint of Dimebag, and the chat throws their horns up!

Wes says, “I got to serve you back with Duke Lion”…And he plays a Thrashier version of the original song!

The chat cheers.

Gus asks Wes if he can play the first riffs off of I’m Broke, which is from their second album, Significant Other, which dustyg36 mentioned in the chat that it released on the very same day as this show aired [June 22, 1999]. Wes begins playing the riffs, which Gus smiles even bigger. He says he really likes the riff where he goes ‘ba dump ba dah” and Wes shows him how to play it!

Now it’s time for the chat to vote! Producer Jake calls the votes as they’re coming in…And Wes wins with a 5 vote lead!

Before Gus signs off, he wants to give a shout out to his friend in Brazil, Mauricio. Bobby says he’s giving him a $100 Blackcraft gift card for coming on the show and staying up late.

We caught up with Gustavo, who told us he is influenced by Wes Borland, Dimebag Darrell, Fredrik Thordendal and MÃ¥rten Hagström of Meshuggah, Mark Morton and Tom Morello. All of which you could definitely hear in his riffs! He said Meshuggah is also a big influence in his way to play drums because he loves the Math Metal vibes, he also loves Tool’s Danny Carrey with his psychedelic work. He said, “smart Rock makes me happy!”

Gus also told us his most favorite Limp Bizkit song to play on guitar is Counterfeit, from the Three Dollar Bill, Y’all album released on July 1, 1997. Gus loves the harmonics on the main riff! And his most favorite Limp Bizkit song to play on the drums is Rearranged, off of the Significant Other record. He says John [Otto] is on fire with the snare ghost notes!

He commented about the Limp Bizkit show he was at, he said Show Me What You Got, also from the Significant Other album, was the song that he wanted to play if he wouldn’t have lost his sign!

However, he said the coolest thing was being there seeing the guy the had influenced him since 1998 playing and killing riffs in front of him!

He added, “Wes is a great expression of art and I admire all his moves, whether in music paintings of sword making.”

Gustavo also wanted to share with us that he has a cat named Wes! He sent us three beautiful photos of Wes to share. He melts our hearts!!
