Hey Everyone! Check out my interview above with John Jarvis from Scour!!
Scour are a band signed to Housecore Records and Nuclear Blast comprised of members who are in many other pretty well known Metal bands from across the USA. Bassist John Jarvis, based out of St. Louis, Missouri, is also in Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Fulgora, Nest, and even a Sepultura tribute band called CLENCHED FIST, to name a few. Drummer Adam Jarvis, who is cousins with John and is based out of Baltimore, Maryland, plays in Pig Destroyer and Misery Index. Guitarist Derek Engemann, based out of San Diego, California, is the bassist for Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals and formerly of Cattle Decapitation as well. Guitarist Mark Kloeppel who is also based out of Baltimore, plays in Misery Index too. And then there’s Philip H. Anselmo! You all know him from En Minor, The Illegals, Down, Superjoint, and formerly Pantera.
Scour has released three EP’s since July 2016, including their very first Grey EP, followed by their Red EP, released in November 2017, and their most recent Black EP, which released in November 2020. All of the EPs are made up of 6 songs each, with the early intentions of making a 6-6-6 EP trilogy collection come to Life!
The song in the video above is titled Doom. It is the first track off of the Black EP and features guest vocalist Jason Momoa and Death Metal guitar God, Erik Rutan from Hate Eternal! The EP also features another amazing Death Metal guitar God, Pat O’Brien formerly of Cannibal Corpse, who did a guest solo on the song Flames. You can check out that one below!!
We open up our one hour and thirteen minute long interview by chatting about Psycho Las Vegas, a very eclectic Music festival that takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, usually held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino located on The Strip.
We then move onto the subject of Scour, where John talks about why the Black EP is definitely heavier than both the Grey and Red EPs. The subject progresses to talking about the Live From The Lair livestream show from January 2021, that was filmed at Nodferatu’s Lair, the practice space and studio outside of New Orleans, Louisiana that Phil & Kate Anselmo own. The show was opened with a performance from another Housecore Records Artist, Shock Narcotic, a band based out of Detroit, Michigan featuring past & present members from again, pretty well known Metal bands, including Dillinger Escape Plan, Black Dahlia Murder, Child Bite, and Battlecross.
John also talks about his favorite bass line he’s composed in Scour and even drops some incredibly exciting news that they are in fact working on a full-length album!! And shares some details about how it’s sounding so far!
Other subjects within the interview we touch upon include the story of his band, NEST, which has elements of Melodic Black Metal, Punk, and Thrash. He also talks about what initially drew him into the brutality of Metal, the effects of Music and Mental Health, Live Music in general, the benefits of Marijuana, and even shares a cool story about him seeing Pantera as a teen, not knowing that he would later end up being in a band with Phil Anselmo! We even chat about the upcoming Superbowl LVI Halftime Show, Rap Music, Slayer, and much more!!
