MICHAEL RAPPAPORT – RHYTHM GUITAR

BRIAN PHILLIPS – DRUMS

The Deadd is a band formed in Oneonta, New York; drummer Brian Phillips began the band in 2013. He took on and off hiatuses until he met Colin Bowen at a guitar shop in 2020. During the Spring of 2021, the two began jamming together and created the Fear of Death record, which was written and recorded over a span of two weeks. Rhythm guitarist, Mike Rappaport met Brian in 2012 at a Gamestop; after hanging out one night, they decided to start a band called Target The Viper; Brian left the band in 2019 to take time off and focus on The Deadd. Within that duration of time, bassist Matt Carlson met Brian in 2017, following Mike, then finally meeting Colin and Brian. Together they created their newest album Fear of Death and self-released it in February of this year. They described Fear of Death as a very Thrashy-Groove elemented album with Motley Crue and 80’s Rock vibes.

“I feel like Fear of Death is a very energy-filled album, whenever we play, we’re always headbanging to it. It’s not boring, it’s never boring, especially — wait until you hear the EP that’s coming out, it’s going to kick Fear of Death’s ass!” said Brian in the interview.

Colin agreed faintly in the background, “It’s really good!”

As they revealed they’ve been working on a new EP that will release on October 1st, 2021. Brian talked about how Matt really shines on the bass with the first track off of the EP titled Loudest Shadow, “Our first song…Man, when he plays that bass, it’s like, IN-YOUR-FACE!”
Matt replied, “yeah, it was a really good opportunity to experiment with stuff.”
Matt and Brian worked on the song at Matt’s garage. Brian said, “it’s turned into a monster!” … “This is by far the best The Deadd has ever sounded and like I said, it’s because of the four of us together. There’s not one person doing it. And there’s four of us, good [and] talented people. And we’re getting together doing it and kicking ass!”

When asked how creating this album helped them Mentally through the pandemic, Matt replied, “Through the pandemic, there was almost no way for an outlet. You come home from a hard day, instead of jamming out, you just kind of stuck dealing with it. When the opportunity arose that these guys are doing shit again, that made things a whole lot better, just jamming. It definitely makes Life a whole lot easier to deal with when you have a good outlet to get all that frustration out. It makes you a better person, I feel. Instead of taking it out on others, you take it out on your equipment, put it in your Music, get it out. When other people relate to that, it really brings everybody together to be able to let out all of that frustration that we’re letting out too. When you see people getting along with that, it’s beautiful. It’s totally worth it at the end.”

Colin followed up Matt’s response with, “You can definitely hear it in the lyrics too. A lot of songs cover that. It was literally my therapy for that.”
